H.E. Shi Mingde, Ambassador of the People´s Republic of China, is named Ambassador of the Year
December 16, 2015 – The Berlin-based Diplomatisches Magazin, in close partnership with the Diplomatic Council (DC, www.diplomatic-council.org), has named the Ambassador and Consul of the Year. The DC is a global think tank in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It is a longstanding tradition to honor diplomats with this title for their outstanding commitment in promoting international understanding. The Ambassador of the Year is His Excellency Shi Mingde, Ambassador of the People´s Republic of China. He follows H.E. Sarojini Seeneevassen-Frers, Ambassador of Mauritius, and H.E. Nongnuth Phetcharatana, Ambassador of Thailand, who both have seats on the Board of Presidents of the Diplomatic Council.
The award ceremony took place in Berlin (Germany) with ambassadors and consuls from over 150 nations attending. This gathering of diplomats was the ideal setting for honouring Dr. Irene Ernst, publisher of the Diplomatisches Magazin and DC Chairwoman, with the DC “Connecting People Award”. Secretary General Hang Nguyen received great applause for her laudatory speech for Dr. Irene Ernst, the Grande Dame in the diplomatic community. She has been connecting diplomats from all over the world with the business community in the last decades.
Prof . Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Zeidler, Honorary Consul of the Philippines, was named the Consul of the Year. The laudation was held by H.E. Ambassador Melita Sta of the Philippines, who became a honorary member of the Diplomatic Council in autumn 2015.
