Diplomatic Council Appoints New President
Ambassador Sarojini Seeneevassen-Frers Becomes New President
The Hague / Netherlands, July 10, 2014 – The Diplomatic Council has appointed Her Excellency, Mrs. Sarojini Seeneevassen-Frers, Ambassador of Mauritius, as its new Diplomatic Council President. The festive inauguration ceremony took place as a highlight of the Diplomatic Council All Nations Summer Celebration at the historical Villa Rothschild (known as the “House of Nations”) near to Frankfurt (Germany). DC President His Excellency Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage will take over responsibility for South Africa and concurrently for ten further African countries.
DC Founding President, His Excellency, Ambassador Buddhi K. Athauda and Secretary General Hang Nguyen jointly handed over the ”Diplomatic Council 8 Star Globe“ to Ambassador Seeneevassen-Frers as a symbol for her inclusion in the highest body of the global think tank. His Excellency, Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage received the “Diplomatic Council World Peace Flame“ in order to figuratively take the peace flame to South Africa. Both sculptures are created by the artist “Jovann” and carry the names of the Ambassadors as well as the engraved Diplomatic Council symbol.
The DC 8 Star Globe is engraved with the globe as a symbol of the United Nations with 8 stars showing the eight continents (the Arctic, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia and Antarctica). The number Eight stands for justice, harmony and wisdom. This number epitomizes the balance between giving and taking. The DC Peace Flame is re-created following the World Peace Flame, which is located in The Hague and stands for peace, unity and freedom. For this reason, The Hague is the perfect place for the Diplomatic Council to be headquartered.
More than 300 selected personalities attended the festive inauguration at the summer celebration, which was a get together of diplomacy, economy and society. Following the official program, all guests enjoyed a lovely evening on the summer terrace of the Villa Rothschild and later in the Tizian Bar of the Villa.
The Diplomatic Council is a global think tank with the main aim to contribute the power of diplomacy to international understanding and peace. It follows the principles of the charter of the United Nations Organization. As members the Diplomatic Council (DC) welcomes not solely associates of the diplomatic or consular corps but also personalities of the economic and cultural life.
