1.5 Million Francs for DuBois et fils
226 new shareholders enable the restart of the oldest Swiss watch factory
Le Locle, January 28, 2013 – 1.5 million Swiss francs were raised by the oldest watch factory in Switzerland, DuBois et fils (www.duboisfils.ch), through crowdfunding with the participation of more than 200 watch lovers and investors from all over the world. Thus, the watch factory located in the Swiss town of Le Locle has reached the goal set by its owner Thomas Steinemann. The completion of the crowdfunding campaign was as exciting as its beginning – guided solely by optimism, without any statistical data or experience since it is the first financial campaign of its kind in the luxury segment: “We did not know the outcome. We could only hope that our first watch models and the team would attract worldwide attention and evoke investors’ interest,” admits the owner of DuBois et fils.
The burst of interest among our investors is caused by the close connection they have with the brand and its manufacturers. Moreover, in contrast to large companies, the shareholders of DuBois et fils are also its ambassadors. The first two new models, concept ONE and concept TWO, are already presented, and numerous pre-orders from all around the globe were the result. Media have also paid keen attention to the campaign – due to TV stations, daily press, and venture capital magazines the news about DuBois et fils is spread all over Europe and the whole world. “No other watch factory ever had such a restart. We have set an example!” says Steinemann. The core values of the brand have remained intact: mechanical movements from Switzerland offer precision and reliability as well as the exquisite design of the watch case and the unique eye-catching dials that offer the highest quality possible.
The forthcoming collection of watches includes pieces with watch movements from old stocks of the factory – among which are, for instance, the old mechanical movements from Record. One of the most outstanding features characterizing DuBois et fils since 1785 is its adherence to the tradition. Financed by crowdfunding, the series production of the first watch models – each limited to 99 pieces – has already started in January. Business administration of the factory needs further changes to enable a smooth transition from one chapter to another. “This great success, which is also the most convincing sign of trust, gives us not only the means but also enough confidence to stay the course on the family tradition of DuBois et fils. We are looking forward to the next chapter!” says Thomas Steinemann.
